The story of the film is related to the film Star Trek: Generations and picks up where that film ends. The plot begins with a distress call from the Enterprise. It is then learned that Enterprise is missing. The script contains several references to Star Trek including the Enterprise, the Klingon Empire, Uhura, Scotty, and the Mirror Universe.
This is the first English version of a Star Trek film to be co-produced and directed by the film's writer/director Justin Lin. Producer J. J. Abrams is the sole film director for Star Trek Into Darkness. Star Trek Beyond co-stars Zoƫ Saldana as Uhura, Idris Elba as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, John Cho as Sulu, Bruce Greenwood as Capt. James T. Kirk, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, and Simon Pegg as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.
The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, and Bruce Greenwood.
Plot
Capt. James T. Kirk has retired from Starfleet. He heads to his vacation home with his wife, Carol Marcus. While there, his old friend, Dr. McCoy, shows up with a medical emergency, forcing Kirk to call Kirk's former first officer, Spock. Spock tells Kirk that he has been called back to duty on a mysterious matter. To find out what the mission is, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy return to Earth. They realize that Spock's mind had been hijacked by a being called "The Beast". Spock then informs Kirk and McCoy that the being is believed to be on the planet Veridian III, while Kirk is called to a briefing aboard the USS Enterprise, named for his old ship.
Captain Kirk arrives at the Enterprise, and meets with his old crew. It is revealed that their current mission is to observe the Veridian IIIian leaders at a peace conference. Kirk is suspicious of the real reason for their mission, but continues to work with his old crew. After a report from Spock, Kirk, and McCoy head off to Veridian III with the USS Discovery. The Discovery arrives at a landing point named Sierra-001. It is there that Kirk and McCoy are ambushed by another of Spock's former foes, Nero. The Enterprise arrives and the crew quickly sets up a defense, preparing to battle Nero's fleet. McCoy is discovered and taken aboard the Ver 0b46394aab
